Auto Parts for Brains: Predictions for 2007

I have read this article from http://www.houstoncars.org/10-auto-industry-predictions-for- 2007.php and they made some interesting predictions as to what might happen in the next year.

Here is a summary of their predictions. For more on these please do visit their blog. They have some great things in there that any automotive enthusiast will love.

Toyota will take Ford and GM's place as the world's largest automotive manufacturer.

This might not be farfetched since these year Toyota topped the list of most preferred car for their camry and most energy efficient for their hybrid line up.

Gas prices will skyrocket again.

Tell me about it. This will surely happen, but I say it will be up and down for most of the year. A brave prediction will be if it will exceed the highest price it got to this year.

People will turn to hybrids again.

A probable effect of rising gasoline prices.

Ford and Jaguar will part ways.

Daimler-Chrysler will become Daimler-Benz and Chrysler once more.

Saab will stick.

Honestly I could'nt care less. :P

Subcompacts will be ruled out by compact cars.

The fact that most of these have better mileage might be the tipping point for the decision makers and buyers.

The slow death of the full-sized SUV.

Maybe sales will be dampened by the threat of rising gas prices. Still there is the image that these cars project that will be irresistible for the American buyer. It's still always about the size.

Great sales for the Hyundai.

I must agree. Lately Hyundai have been coming up with better designed models. From the stigma of being old unreliable, some increase in sales is not surprising. But they surely have a long way to go.

This is still not the year of the diesel.

I hope not. I hope not.

This the season to remember friends...

Merry Christmas Everyone! This is truly the time to try to remember all the people who have been part of our past year. It has been one big ride for me. And what made it an interesting one was the fact that I did it with those close to my heart. This post is just to greet you all a Merry Christmas.

Here are a cool collection of tips I have found for us to make the holiday season less of a hassle.

1. It would be better if you schedule your yearly maintenance a few weeks before the Holidays. This will help you avoid the crowd, and prepare for the coming weather changes that will surely affect your car.

2. Change your batteries even if they have not yet bailed out on your car and if you have been using them for three years or more already.

3. Carry a washer solvent on your vehicle, and check wipers. They are usually used much during the season.

4. Have your annual antifreeze change early. This will ensure your vehicle will be ok even if the temperature drops. Also, follow the recommended 50/50 antifreeze and distilled water.

5. Check your tires and your spare. Make sure they are properly aligned and are balanced.

6. Never drive between short distances. It is better to plan your shopping including where you will park, what routes to take and what to buy.

7. Put in a new car seat cover that will absorb all the spills, and the mess the holidays offer.

8. When parking on snow laden ground, check your exhaust, just for safety.

That’s just a jumble from my mind. Hehehehe.

Windows of Opportunities

I hate link sites. Maybe, it's because when I started giving the net some attention, Yahoo! was already a biggie and so I just had no time to appreciate link sites or link pages for that matter. Lately however, I got into some research and I found just how important links are. They are literally windows that will take you to relevant sites with common content.

Links usually pass thru an approval phase where it is screened for significance. This means that for a really good page, a links page serves as a list of sites that the site views as relevant.

Here are a few of the significant links pages I have found that I did like.

Auto Parts Brain Boy: Lessons from Mary

I read in an article once that a big chunk of our lives is lived with the trusty automobile. It has in many instances become part of our families. We have learned to care for it as we do our children. we love and cherish it as a loved one and we do our best to treat it if it gets broken.

No better proof is there of this truth than to see what men of fame has spoken regarding these contraptions on wheels we can truly never do without.

Here are a few of the best quotes I have seen on cars and everything about them. I concur with a lot of them especially with the long hours I have spent with my own Mary.

It takes 8,460 bolts to assemble an automobile, and one nut to scatter it all over the road. ~Author Unknown

The best car safety device is a rear-view mirror with a cop in it. ~Dudley Moore

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves. ~Albert Einstein

A tree never hits an automobile except in self defense. ~American Proverb

When buying a used car, punch the buttons on the radio. If all the stations are rock and roll, there's a good chance the transmission is shot. ~Larry Lujack

The car has become the carapace, the protective and aggressive shell, of urban and suburban man. ~Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media

I hooked up my accelerator pedal in my car to my brake lights. I hit the gas, people behind me stop, and I'm gone. ~Steven Wright

You never really learn to swear until you learn to drive. ~Author Unknown

The car has become a secular sanctuary for the individual, his shrine to the self, his mobile Walden Pond. ~Edward McDonagh

Stupidity is not a handicap. Park elsewhere! ~Author unknown, as seen on a T-shirt

The car has become... an article of dress without which we feel uncertain, unclad, and incomplete. ~Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media, 1964

Auto Parts - Brain Boy: Awakening

continued.....

ok. so as I walk to hug my mom, I was kinda expecting that she'd start asking questions and all that. What surprised me though was her action. She gave me a tap in the shoulders as I kissed her. Very very softly she whispered.

"You've been neglecting your car son!"

I would have just dismissed her comment without further thought, but the way she said it made me feel like she was askin me what I was doin with my life rather than how I was taking care of my car.

The afternoon ended quite normally. I even promised her that I'd do better of taking care of Mary, which was my car's name.

But after that, I guess I never was the same again. Because that simple comment sparked my interest and got me thinking and planning for what I want to happen to my life.

And so here follows my journey and a lot of the things I have picked up along the way.

It may sound funny but many of the things I need to know and that has greatly helped me came from my interaction with many of the most mundane things.

And yep you guessed it right..... I did not have auto parts for brains for no reason...

Coming soon... Lessons from Mary (the car OK!)

Auto Parts - Brain Boy: Fresh From the Factory

Astroboy, Number 5, Terminator, even Robocop... Though I try real hard to feel an affinity to them, I cannot. For unlike them, I am flesh and bones for the most part. I'm just your normal twenty something guy thinking of girls and how I can get to impress some. When one reaches this age when almost everybody around me is marrying right and left, everyday becomes more of a pressure. The "what ifs" are drowning me most times and though I don't really go belly up, it makes me think back a lot on where I am and where I'll go.

So there I was, out of a job, without a girl in my life and feeling pretty miserable. I was visiting home in my old beat up car. The moment I parked in the driveway, I know I am up for some tongue lashing from my mom....
